Still no gongs for titans of tobacco control

The long wait continues.

The Platinum Jubilee Honours have been announced and there is still no recognition for Deborah Arnott, CEO of ASH, or Sheila Duffy, director of ASH Scotland.

I’ve been writing about this aberration since 2013 and since then several lesser lights in the anti-smoking firmament have been honoured for their services.

But nothing for Sheila or Deborah who have led the tobacco control army with such distinction.

It doesn’t make sense to me that they have been overlooked time after time but here we are and it’s happened again.

I’m beginning to think they must have turned down the offer of a gong, joining such legends as David Bowie, David Hockney and Nigella Lawson.

It’s the only possible explanation.
