Shane Warne: ‘I smoked, I drank, I bowled a bit. No regrets.’

Email sent to Forest following the death of Shane Warne at 52.

Possibly a ‘dead cert’ that SW’s heart attack was caused by or at least exacerbated by his addiction to the shit you promote. Another ‘trophy’ for your wall of shame.

Nice.

Warne’s premature death is genuinely tragic and there’s no getting round the fact that smoking may have played a part but it’s impossible to say with any degree of certainty.

There are lots of possible factors so it’s inappropriate, insensitive and far too easy to point the finger at any one thing.

What is certain is that Warne enjoyed a remarkable life and achieved more in his 52 years than most of us will manage even if we live to 80 or 100.

A remarkable cricketer whose popularity transcended national boundaries, he made mistakes on and off the field but that only proved he was human.

As for his lifestyle:

'I smoked, I drank, I bowled a bit. No regrets.'

Shane Warne died far too soon but I can think of worse epitaphs.

Update: According to the Telegraph (March 7):

Shane Warne died of natural causes and with no signs of foul play, Thai police have confirmed …

The statement did not specify the precise cause of death but police confirmed over the weekend that Warne had previously complained of chest pain.

The autopsy report showed Warne died of a “congenital disease”, Songyot Chayaninporamet, deputy director of Samui Hospital, told a news conference …

Warne's long-time manager, James Erskine, also said he had just finished a “ridiculous” 14-day diet.

Note: ‘A congenital disorder is a condition that is present from birth. Congenital disorders can be inherited or caused by environmental factors.’

If I recall correctly, he was also double jabbed, which seems to be causing problems for all sports stars or super fit people.
