MP gets cold feet about presenting Best Smoking Area award
Tonight I am presenting (yes, presenting) the BT Sport Great British Pub Award for Best Smoking Area.
I'm a late replacement for an MP who was invited to do it but backed out when he discovered the nature of the category.
We know this because his office asked if he could present another award instead.
I've never known anything like it.
JTI and Forest have supported the Best Smoking Area award for four years. In previous years it has been presented by Brian Binley MP, Simon Kirby MP (both Conservative) and Lindsay Hoyle MP (Labour).
I'd love to tell you who the spineless politician is (you'll never guess, there are so many to choose from!) but I can't – sorry.
Meanwhile I'm off to pick up my dinner jacket for tonight's event which takes place at the London Hilton in Park Lane.
I've also got to attend a 'Presenters' Briefing' and rehearse my lines but that shouldn't take long.
"And the winner is ...."

Any clues Simon, perhaps some cryptic ones...with the proviso that nobody can post the name on your blog?
If he or she is some obscure bottom feeder then I doubt we would guess anyway.
You should name the MP in the public interest. No tobacco consumer would vote for a representative that ignores them and they may inadvertently vote for this sanctimonious bigot without realising it.
At least tell us it wasn't 'our' Nigel Farage, please?
I recall last year that smokers on this forum wanted to visit the previous winner to say thanks and give them lots of appreciated support and custom for making us feel socially included and welcome.
I know you're really busy but organising this sort of get together is something that no one does better than Forest. .....
90% of MP's are all spineless are they not Simon, seeing they have sold our country down the river to the EU
