Invitation to The Freedom Dinner

I am pleased to announce full details of The Freedom Dinner that will take place at Boisdale of Canary Wharf on Tuesday 26th June 2012.

The event is the sequel to Revolt In Style (A Freedom Dinner) which we hosted shortly before the introduction of the smoking ban in England.

As in 2007, the directors of Forest, The Free Society and Boisdale invite you to join us for what should be a fantastic evening.

The event will be hosted by Ranald Macdonald, proprietor of Boisdale and a member of Forest's Supporters Council. It will begin at 6.00pm with a drinks reception on the large smoking terrace overlooking the fountains at Cabot Square.

This will be followed, in Ranald's words, by "a sumptuous three-course dinner with delicious wines, very stimulating after dinner speakers, then live music from the legendary Reuben Richards & Soul Train".

Ah, yes, the speakers. Well, the poster (above) has the details so I'll simply repeat them:

  • Claire Fox, director, Institute of Ideas
  • James Delingpole, writer, journalist and broadcaster
  • General Sir Mike Jackson, former head of the British Army 2003-2006

If you haven't visited Boisdale of Canary Wharf (and I'm sure most of you haven't) you're in for a treat. Opened last year it features the distinctive Boisdale design but with a clever modern twist.

Getting there couldn't be easier. It's just 16 minutes by Tube from Central London and a two-minute walk from the Underground station at Canary Wharf.

Tickets (deep breath) cost £80 each or £700 for a table of ten before June 1. (After that the price goes up to £800.)

To book visit The Freedom Dinner event page on the Boisdale website. Alternatively you can pay by cheque. Telephone Valerie Morrison on 0207 715 5815 for details or you can call Forest on 01223 370156.

I hope you can join us. Events like this only happen once every five years!

PS. Next week we will announce a FREE event – Smoke On The Water – that will take place in London on Wednesday June 20. Both events are part of a series of initiatives Forest is organising as we approach the fifth anniversary of the smoking ban in England.

Would love to make both events but thoroughly depressed to announce that I can't. Good luck anyway and have fun.

It is definitely in my diary.

Can I also add that Reuben Richards & Soul Train are really good. They normally have a Friday night spot at Boisdale in Belgravia and you can't keep your feet still.

Will you be dancing Simon?

No.

A promise that Simon will dance and who knows --- I might just find a way to get there for this once in a lifetime opportunity :>)

Smoking, eating, drinking, yes. Dancing, never, unless perhaps we organise a smoker-friendly ceilidh in which case I'm up for the Gay Gordons.
