Tonight's the night
If you live in the Bristol area and want to see a debate on plain packaging, Chris Snowdon and I will be addressing the Bristol Debating Union on the subject tonight.
The event takes place at the Faculty of Arts from 7.30-8.30pm. There will be free drinks from 6.45 so my advice is – arrive early.
Our principal opponent is Stephen Williams MP, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Smoking and Health and a leading cheerleader for the taxpayer-funded Plain Packs Protect campaign.
At the time of writing there is still no word on the other side's second speaker, which is strange given that Bristol is the home of Plain Packs Protect, Smokefree South West and Cecilia Farren's GASP outfit.
I can't imagine why Farren wouldn't want to share a platform with us. Is it something I said?!!
Update: As Belinda correctly points out in the comments, the other side's second speaker is Dr Gabriel Scully, retired director of public health in the South West.

The Facebook event page says it's Dr Gabriel Scally.
Will someone record the event?
Good luck. I was hoping to come and give you support but sadly cost and train times proved prohibitive.
Cecilia probably will be there. How could she avoid it. I fear you're walking into a viper's nest at the uni of Tobacco Control that churns out new junk scientists year after year.
The room may be full of tobacco control workers and activists pretending to be "ordinary members of the public" but we do have truth on our side, common sense and balanced minds whereas they have only paranoia and phobic fears to prey upon.
I'm looking forward to your report tomorrow.
