To vape or not to vape?

Final reminder.

Forest’s latest Talking Liberties webinar takes place tomorrow evening (Wednesday) when the subject is ‘Why Should Smokers Switch To Vaping?’.

The event coincides with the last week of VApril, the annual ‘vaping awareness month’ now in its fourth year.

Our five panellists are John Dunne, CEO of the UK Vaping Industry Association; Joe Dunne, spokesman for Respect Vapers (Ireland); Daniel Pryor, head of programmes, Adam Smith Institute; vaping advocate Judy Gibson; and confirmed smoker Dan Donovan.

One or two people have queried why Forest is hosting a webinar about vaping. Perhaps this will help. According to Tobacco Reporter (Smoker Group Forest to Host Webinar on Vaping):

“E-cigarettes have been a mainstream consumer product for the best part of a decade and vaping is credited with encouraging millions of smokers to switch to what evidence suggests is a significantly reduced risk product,” says Forest director Simon Clark.

“Despite that, millions more seem resistant to switching and the latest figures suggest that the number of vapers in the UK may have fallen from a peak of 3.6 million to 3 million. The question is, why?

“Confirmed smokers are often excluded from public debates about vaping and smoking cessation,” says Clark. “It’s misguided because their views are essential to understanding why more smokers don’t want to quit or switch.

“We believe adults should have the freedom to make informed choices, so this is an opportunity for confirmed smokers to learn more about reduced-risk products, and for vaping advocates to understand why many smokers still prefer combustible tobacco and to respect that choice.”

The meeting has also been reported by Planet of the Vapes here.

I'm supporting Tabril this month. I love my tabs and I'm not quitting for a vastly inferior product that for some, like the bullies at Vape Club, becomes a symbol of their superiority complex and contempt for people who enjoy smoking.

Until vapers understand, and actually prove it with action, that the only way to save vaping is to fight for smoking, they are just helping tobacco control beat us up in hope vaping won't be the next target even though they know the issue is not about health. It is about choice and until all choices are respected, none of them are safe.

I will not fight for vaping if vapers don't fight for smoking. I will not help any movement that wants to be part of tobacco control and force cessation on people who use a legitimate consumer product and are doing nothing wrong.

Sadly, I cannot be at the event due to working hours but I hope you can put my points across, even though I am sure they'll be met with the usual fork tongue.

Coming next, liquid vitamin C rather than a whole fresh strawberry.

No thanks.
