Shaun Ryder endorses nicotine pouches

Writing on his blog today, Chris Snowdon has responded to a report in Sunday's Observer.

The Guardian's sister paper claimed that British American Tobacco has embarked on a ‘global marketing push designed to offset dwindling cigarette consumption by recruiting the nicotine consumers of the future.’

The alleged £1bn campaign ‘harnesses the popular appeal of social media influencers, pop stars and sporting events':

According to a wide-ranging report by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, it has also attracted younger adults, non-smokers and even reached the eyes of children.

I won’t comment on that because Snowdon has covered it already but, by coincidence, a sponsored tweet featuring the Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder popped up on my Twitter feed yesterday.

It's part of a campaign for ZYN, a brand of nicotine pouch owned by Swedish Match.

Whoever came up with the idea to use Ryder is a genius because it would be very difficult to accuse them of targeting children or younger adults on the back of this. Bravo!

Other nicotine pouches are of course available ...
