Question: Is a smoke-free England (a) desirable and (b) achievable?

The Adam Smith Institute has posted videos of the fringe meetings they hosted at last week's Conservative conference in Manchester.

'The Golden Opportunity: How Global Britain Can Embrace Tobacco Harm Reduction' featured Daniel Pryor (ASI), Mark Oates (We Vape), Louise Ross (New Nicotine Alliance), Chris Snowdon (IEA) and Nicky Small (JTI).

Alternatively if you want to skip to my question about whether a smoke-free England is (a) desirable and (b) achievable, fast forward to 52:22.

It was answered by Dan Pryor and Chris Snowdon with Mark Oates responding at 1:05:20.

Louise Ross however said nothing and her face was a picture of inscrutability. Make of that what you will!

PS. Eagle-eyed observers will note that at the start of the meeting Chris Snowdon's wine glass was full.

By 52:22 (and probably much earlier) it was empty. Hence this text:

"Can you bring me some red wine?" to which I replied, "I think you've had enough!"

His response: "B*****d."

Charming.

Walking a few steps to deliver a (free) glass of wine to a thirsty man is a small request after years of loyal friendship. I'm more disappointed than angry.
