Ahoy, there!

As of this morning 200 people have registered to attend Forest's annual boat party on the Thames next week.
Given the state of the weather that's pretty remarkable. People are either incurable optimists or they just don't care!
Or perhaps they see it as a chance to recover from all this referendum madness.
It's not too late to join us but guests must register in advance. RSVP events@forestonline.org or call Kristina on 01223 370156.
Full details here.

Will the smokers on this ship be cast ashore in remote locations with no way back, left penniless and separated from the rest of their family for the crime of smoking, as P&O likes to do.

While I was reading the DM article I anticipated comments that he was a smoker despite suffering from cancer - and they didn't disappoint. Most comments completely lacking in sympathy for his plight or questioning that a butt could start a fire on board if blown back (the reason why his 'crime' merited that he be dumped). I wonder how many fires on ships have been started this way - answers on a postcard please.
I just wish smokers would understand the need to carry pocket ashtrays to protect themselves from penalties in all sorts of ways.
It's shame the anti-smokers don't promote the use of these things. If they really hate cigarette litter that much they should. However, perhaps the likes of ASH need to smokers to stay ignorant about their existence because where then would they get back the lost tax from quitters without the new penalties being heaped on smokers who won't quit?
Personally, I hate litter and have been litter conscious ever since the Wombles campaigned against it back in the 70s.
I wouldn't throw an empty pack of crisps overboard and so I wouldn't throw a fag end either. Little is litter. It isn't unique to smoking. Smoker or non smoker, there is no excuse for it.
Do you anticipate a boarding party under the leadership of Ms Arnott, a la the Geldorf / Farage scenario a few days ago? Make sure you have a few water cannon to hand, Simon!
