Poll: little support for plain packaging
A survey published today reveals "little support for plain packaging of tobacco" (The Sun).
The poll, commissioned by Grassroots Conservatives and conducted by Comres, is published here.
Interestingly only 32 per cent think David Cameron will make a good prime minister after the 2015 general election. Then again, that's better than Boris (28 per cent), Nigel (22), Ed (21) or Nick (12).
Of greater interest to me however was the question, "Which three of the following policies would you most like to see political parties include as manifesto promises to introduce after the next General Election?"
Seventeen policies were listed including cap on immigration into Britain from the European Union, referendum on Britain's membership of the EU, reducing the level of tax on fuel, re-introduction of control orders for suspected terrorists and introduction of plain packing for tobacco products.
Plain packaging came second last and was supported by just four per cent of respondents which rather proves what we have always said – there is no appetite for standardised packaging among the general public.
Full list here. ComRes interviewed 2,010 GB adults online between 29th and 31st August 2014.

They could increase Govt funding on health IF the Govt stopped diverting valuable NHS cash to the Public Health Quango and its salaried parasites to promote hate campaigns, silly gimmicks like Plain packs, and politically motivated junk research that is passed off as "science".
This is especially important given that our taxes currently go to pay public health staff who are abusive to the public they are supposed to serve.

Politicians who fund the ranting anti smoking tobacco controllers from tax are not suitable for re-election.
If people were only allowed pick three policies then all the survey tells us is that hardly anyone makes it one of their top three priorities.
I'm all for evidence that the public thinks it's a bad idea, but this isn't it. With that methodology you could prove that there's 'little support' for just about any policy you can think of.
The danger with these things, of course, is that the antis would claim this as people not caring about it.
The question should have been related to choice and liberties not the specific, linear, single one, and quoted as an example.
It doesn't matter what methodology was used, how this was framed, worded, worked out or reflected. The antis are liars, bullies, and masters of manipulation and only their voice is being heard by those who dictate to the rest of us how to live our lives.
If Debs et al say this poll doesn't really exist and the minister only dreamt it, the minister will agree that she did. We are being very badly served by people with no intellect, courage, or common sense, who allow themselves to be used by zealots, bigots and thugs. #Smokerphobia
