Criminal counterfeiter or lazy stereotype?
Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 21:36
This video was produced by British American Tobacco in 2010.
I thought it was rather good but I understand it was criticised by tobacco control campaigners for portraying the criminals as stereotypical Eastern Europeans.
I wonder what those same campaigners will say about the criminal mastermind featured in a new video produced by the Belgian Foundation against Cancer?
PS. "Leading anti-tobacco campaigner" Simon Chapman has tweeted that it's a "video from a criminal counterfeiter".
Looks like an actor to me.

How odd!
The video says that plain packs are just as easy to copy as branded packs. Erm.... Isn't the whole point that plain packs are EASIER to copy than branded packs? The important word is EASIER and not EASY.
It sounds like a Simple Simon publicity stunt to me. Is THE VIDEO Australian? I remember him saying that a counterfeiter had claimed that counterfeiting branded packs was "100% easy"? Right... Does that mean that plain packs are not easier to counterfeit? Of course not! It is not the 'ease' that is important. It is the time involved and the recognisability.
