Half-term break

Spent a couple of nights in Scotland last week.

It was half-term. My son was in Russia on a school trip so the rest of us headed north.

After leaving my daughter with my mother-in-law in Glasgow we drove east and stayed at this small but perfectly formed hotel overlooking the links at Muirfield, home of this year's Open Championship.

From there it was a short walk to the beach at Gullane Bents overlooking the Firth of Forth.

My favourite moment was afternoon tea in the comfort of the drawing room. Outside it was snowing. Bliss.
