'Anti-design' fag packs nominated for design award. Go figure.
Sad, really.
Australia's plain-packaging tobacco law has earned the federal government a nomination in a prestigious international design award.
See Plain pack of smokes gets design nod.
I wonder what designers have to say about this. After all, if standardised packaging of tobacco is introduced worldwide a lot of designers will lose work.
And what happens if plain packaging is extended to alcohol and other 'unhealthy' products? Do you think the Design Museum has really thought this through?

Designs for cigarrete packets now that is a tricky question. The Australians have changed theirs to some ugly looking pictures of people who are sufferering from all sorts of deseases.
I am a smoker and now at 74 have no intention of giving it up. I have smoked since I was 14 and overpaid this government tax for the privalage.
I ran a pub in the days when people were given freedom to do as they wished as long as they did not fight or break up the place they could enjoy a drink and yes smoke. Now they are closing down all thanks to the new laws imposed upon us.
What difference if the cigs are hidden behind shutters or their packets white. People will still smoke. Good for them It is what I call freedom of choice.
