Hands off our t-shirts
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 17:22
Plain packs update.
Following the Government's curious and deeply suspicious decision to extend the consultation by four weeks to Friday 10th August, the Hands Off Our Packs campaign took the only sensible course of action.
We took to the streets.
A mobile billboard (above) patrolled the road outside the Houses of Parliament while campaigners (below) modelled some fetching t-shirts.
31 days to go ...

Would not have handing out, say, chocolate bars/mini cans of coke etc all in the Ugly Packaging been more effective...ie moved the debate away from the 'child harming' cigarettes? Show the public what is going to happen to things they perhaps do care about?- as did that video of the future corner shop.
That's a question not a criticism btw.
More campaigns of this kind are well worth doing. Particularly when some politician is being interviewed on College Green and placards can be seen in the background, with a nice succinct sound bite.
Long overdue.
I sincerely hope, (and in my opinion, it is a possibility), that this could be the first major defeat for the Tobacco Control Industry.
Unlike previous lobbying, this has drawn a response from Police and MPs. I also see that the trade union Unite are petitioning against it. Not only have Imperial Tobacco done a magazine wrap, but Japan Tobacco Inernational, besides their press adverts, have threatened to take the Government to court if this legislation goes through.
May I recommend that, if you have not already done so. complete the http://consultations.dh.gov.uk/tobacco/standardised-packaging-of-tobacco-products/consultation/intro/view
I do wish there had been this level of engagement during the smoking ban debate.
The smoking ban "debate" Mark?
Was it on a Wednesday or a Thursday - I somehow seemed to have missed it!
