...a desert island
For me a Free Society allows everyone to carry out and partake in legal activities without persecution.
It is right that some of these activites be in specific places/venues to maintain the freedoms of personal choice.
A Free Society uses discression and common sense, especially on the part of law enforcers and not arbitrary machines that result in fines and more being received through the post. This is too much like Big Brother, as are signs such as 'Speed ENFORCEMENT .....'.
A Free Society allows people to enjoy their life whilst on this planet in the ways that please them (within the realms of sensible laws). Life is short and right now, for some (if not many) if things get any worse than they currently are (which looks likely) there are people who would rather not live too long in such a regime. It is like medical practitioners saying to the 80 or 90 something year old that really poorly and don't have long to live, but for their own good they should stop drinking and/or smoking! WHY? If these things give pleasure, better to loose a few weeks or even months and die happier than live longer by a few weeks or months and die miserable for the sake of what gives them a little comfort and pleasure!
Neither life nor the world is perfect; sadly people do get injured and killed through accidents - it is part of life and always will be. A Free Society also means that all people take responsibility for their own actions - just as children learn when playing - if they are not careful when climbing a tree they can fall out and break an arm or leg - it is painful but mends fairly quickly and they have learnt a valuable lesson, as we all do throughout life. Sadly, some of these lessons do come with a high price, but no matter how many laws or how much crazy health and safety rules there are, we can never save everyone - fact of life!
