Grand tour

Just arrived in Lausanne.
We caught the overnight ferry to Caen in northern France and spent the day driving through France to Switzerland.
Tomorrow we're driving to Zurich where we'll be based for the rest of the week.
It's 24 years since I visited Zurich. From what I remember I'm looking forward to going back.

I shall be walking around my local energy centre where the local pit used to be. A pit by the way is a coal-mine where my dad used to work. After that I shall be returning to my flat for a cup of tea and a ham sandwhich. This evening I shall stand in the bath on one leg and try pissing into the sink.
Good luck with pissing in the sink JJ. Let us know how it pans out. (arf...)
How far from your bath is the sink, by the way?
nisakiman - Not far enough sadly – too much splash-back.
But the fun part is this. I had the sink shaped like Simon Clark’s left ear. With all that champagne he guzzels coming out of his tabs, I like to think I’m keeping him in touch with common man.
What a novel idea JJ ... people that can speak for the common man. :)
Hello Simon,on my patch I see! Off to see Phillip Morris? As you're in Switzerland, perhaps you'd like a heads up on Swiss smoking laws. Laws vary from canton to canton - although there is a federal minimum. Federal law says smoking is banned in public places, except bars smaller than 85m2 and private clubs. Bars can also open 'fumoirs' - separate smoking rooms. However, cantons are free to enact stronger legislation if they see fit. Cantons Geneva and Vaud (where lausanne is) have done that. However, the German speaking cantons are generally more relaxed. Canton Basel has found an interesting loophole - many bars declared themselves private clubs -but to join, enter the bar and pay 10 francs (about a fiver) and then you're a member of all the bars in the canton for a year. This is why we should be pushing for private club exemption in the UK..
Enjoy Zurich Simon, its a great city - small enough to get around easily, yet big enough to have a buzz. Some great bars as well. There's a Tiffanys on Bahnhofstrasse - your missus may be interested.. !
(oh, by the way - if you're driving motorway signs are green and main roads blue, like Italy. And make sure there's a vignette (motorway sticker) on the windscreen!)
Thanks, Mark.
