Live and kicking – the new Forest website
The new Forest website is now live and you can visit it here.
It's a project that is still in development but I'm rather pleased with it. Visually it's a big step forward, but the big difference is that visitors can now post comments on the site in response to breaking news stories.
The aim is to make the site more much immediate and interactive than the old one, so I hope you will add your own comments in the days and weeks ahead.
We are still editing and updating copy that has been transferred from the previous site. When that work is completed we will add new information and resources.
The site will be updated regularly so I hope you will bookmark it and become a frequent visitor. We want to create a useful resource for adults who enjoy consuming tobacco as well as providing them with a platform for their views.
Politicians, broadcasters and journalists will be alerted to the new site so the more people who post the better.
Be the first to add a comment to the new site – click here.
PS. Although the new site is live, your browser may send you to the old site (which had the same URL). Don't ask me why. It's something to do with the Domain Name System (DNS):
DNS is a hierarchical naming system built on a distributed database for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices worldwide.
Alternatively you may get a message saying "No page could be found at this address". Click on the 'Back to Home' link and it should take you to the new site.
It should sort itself out within 24 hours or so. If not, let me know.

Great site!
This website is fresh and clean. It has many functions that we will all find useful. I particularly like the further reading section. Easy to navigate too.
Will this be taking the place of all other sites Simon? I would hope so.
So will this new site be taking over from this site? Did I ask my question in a rude way?
No, JJ, this is my personal blog, so it will run alongside the Forest site which will be geared more to news. Hopefully they will complement one another but if there is too much duplication we will review the situation. Our priority is the Forest site.
Well the new site here looks good... and I am pleased to be one of the first to view it.
We are all fed up and not getting used to having our FREEDOM curtailed, by this pathetic smoking ban... AND we are not giving up - smoking or fighting to get back some of the public smoking areas where we can socialize in traditional ways... the Pubs & Clubs, the Bingo Halls.
Those Over 18 Adult Only meeting places, where we used to meet up after work for a relaxing drink & smoke & chat are gradually shutting down or being changed into restaurants, mosques or just being demolished.
With more people than ever living alone, it is so sad to see the demise of our favourite meeting place - The Great British Pub. Why can't proprietors be allowed to put a notice on the entrance of their Pub to warn people to expect a smoking establishment... surely for the sake of British tradition, we should be allowed at least one in each town?
...And if they did, I know where all the customers will be!
Last night I could not believe that on an open air British Rail platform - I had someone come onto the Loud Tannoy and tell me that I was being watched and must extinguish my cigarette immediately! Strange there was no one around when I wanted to ask information about which Platform I needed to get on!
It is absolutely crazy... I fear Big Brother watching & recording every area of our public lives!
Please lets have some commons-sense and fairness... & FREEDOM!
Thanks Simon.
"No prizes for guessing who was the first to post a comment to the new site."
Anybody I know?
Obviously someone with a very large trumpet!
Stop showing off, Dave!
