Scotland's smoking ban five years on

The Scotsman has published a feature entitled 'Five years of the smoking ban'.

The article includes comments from me, Paul Waterson of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, Phil Hanlon and Jill Pell, professors of public health at Glasgow University, and Sheila Duffy, chief executive of ASH Scotland.

It also features several case studies including a publican, Lynn Adams, who "has seen her business decline since the smoking ban came in", and a smoker, Dr Stuart Waiton.

Sounds very familiar to a documentary I was watching the other day, entitled "Hitler's Children". Very, very sinister!

I checked out the Scotsman website - hoping the story was up on-line (I assume Simon, you'll provide the link when its there?)
However, came across this.

Why would the Scottish government what tobacoo retailers to register if they didn't have further illiberal plans up their sleeves?

ASH has shown it:

The time has come to relax the ban as other countries have done. This will allow customers to choose which venue they wish to frequent. It will save numerous pubs from going under a revive those pubs that are struggling.

Do the likes of Shona Robinson really believe that the 30 fold increase in pub closures from 2006 was due to cheap supermarket booze? And that spmejow, miraculously, it was cheap supermarket booze that caused similar levels of closures exactly a year later in England? Does she REALLY? Honestly!?

Whatever the answer, she should be sacked as she is plainly either a liar or a moron. Either way she has no place in public office.

And my God - that GP. He should be struck off, too. Not only is he clearly deranged, but to say things like "I see people who have cancer caused by their partner's passive smoking" shows he has a clear contempt for evidence-based practice. Does he not know that Cancer Research UK (hardly the smoker's friend) say that 75% of cancers actually occur in non-smokers? Or are all of those due to passive smoking, too?

God, the lunatics really have taken over the asylum. I actually no longer care about the smoking Ban. I now just live for the day when Public Health, Tobacco Control, ASH, CRUK and all the other evil pixies and their State-funded hordes are finally exposed and put in their place.

Oh and Pell again!?? How often has she been discredited now, not just in the Blogospere but by The Times and the BBC, too? And STILL she keeps cropping up to spew lies and fill in funding forms. Christ......

"Spmejow" = "somehow". Is a typo obviously, not Serbo Croat or somesuch. Obviously.
