‘Philip Morris International celebrates the first smoke-free culture certified island in the world.’

Philip Morris International today [October 3] celebrates Astypalea (Greece), the first Smoke-Free Culture certified island in the world. The Greek island has successfully built a culture where people are encouraged to remove cigarette smoke from their lives.

The island received the Smoke-Free Culture certification from TUV Austria, a leading independent certification organization, recognizing their commitment to reduce cigarette smoking by implementing and continuously improving a set of actions that encourage quitting, which remains the best option for smokers’ health, or switching to better alternatives if they do not quit.

“We are proud to support this initiative and congratulate Astypalea on their efforts. We hope that other destinations around the world will follow their example by embracing a smoke-free culture,” said Frederic de Wilde, President European Union Region at PMI.

It sounds like gobbledegook to me. WTAF is a "smoke free culture certified island" 😂 That one should go on PMI's comedy page 😂😂🚬🚬🚬

Odd, this. Why haven't they awarded this strange certificate to somewhere like Bhutan, who actually banned cigarettes and smoking altogether (now slightly relaxed, I understand, because people protested at the harshness of the punishments and smuggling rates soared)? Surely that's the most anti-smoking culture of them all? I can't quite see how this little Greek island is doing anything different from pretty much all other countries in the world, including our own, in implementing anti-smoking measures along the lines they describe. And what about places like Oz, New Zealand, New York and California? They've been rabidly anti-smoking for a lot, lot longer than any parts of Greece have and, from the reports I hear, their anti-smoking rules are a sight more draconian than any in Europe, even ours. If I was Oz, NZ, NY or NorCal, I'd be distinctly miffed!

Good point Misty. In fact how come PMI haven't awarded ISIS as the most anti smoker organisation in the world 😂 No one dared smoke in Syria while they were in charge and PMI would no doubt support the chopping off off hands of tobacconists and burning smokers alive in cages. ISIS knew how to get smokers to #unsmoke 😂

And now 'Exhibit 3' where the antismoker future defendants employ propaganda too reinforce societal division and the persecution of smokers. This is evidence of hate crimes and the antismokers behind this propaganda should (and will) be held to account once this antismoker hysteria subsides and the hate campaign is recognized for tyrannical assault on liberty it fuels.
