I'm not a huge cricket fan but it's hard not to be moved by the reports of Shane Warne's state funeral in Melbourne.
Before yesterday's 'fond farewell' to the legendary cricketer, the Telegraph's chief sports writer Oliver Brown wrote:
Looking forward to a future without him is inconceivable, but we take comfort from knowing that Shane packed more into his 52 years than most could pack into two lifetimes. As he would say, “I smoke, I drank – and I played a little cricket.”
No-one can deny that 52 is young to die and perhaps Warne's lifestyle was a contributory factor. But as he is also reported to have said, "No regrets."
How many of us would love to say that and mean it?
Living to 80 or 100 is all very well but what's the point unless you enjoy life and make the most of the time you have on Earth?
