CD or not CD, that is the question

One of my favourite live albums is Live! In The Air Age by Be Bop Deluxe.

I saw the band a couple of times when I was a student in Aberdeen (once with John Cooper Clarke as the support act) and I have their five studio albums which have now been remastered and re-released for people like me who have too much money and not enough sense.

Now it's time for Live! In The Air Age to receive the same treatment and there are two options.

The first is a 3CD 'remastered and expanded' edition that costs £18.99. The second is a 16 disc (15CDs/1DVD) limited edition box set, priced £89.99.

Fifteen CDs? How is that possible from a 90-minute gig?

Well, it turns out that 14 of the 15 CDs feature a different concert on the band's 1977 UK tour. There are minor variations but every set list is pretty much the same so I'm struggling to understand why anyone would want to listen to each and every one.

Anyway I have just discovered that my new car doesn't have a CD player. My previous car (which was the same model) did have one so earlier this week I spent several minutes trying to insert a CD where the CD player used to be.

I wasn't driving but it was dark and it took me a while to work out why the disc wouldn’t slide in to what turned out to be a solid panel. If I now want to listen to music in the car everything is done via Bluetooth using my mobile phone or iPad, but I'm not convinced that mp3 files are as good, quality wise, as CDs.

First world problem, I know, but how is this progress?!
