Throughout the year I've been highlighting songs by the English pop group XTC.
I'm nearly done (final post next week) but since the band ceased recording principal songwriter Andy Partridge has released dozens of demos as well as writing, to order, songs for other artists.
The latter includes 'You Bring The Summer' for The Monkees which I posted here following Mike Nesmith's death a couple of weeks ago.
In 2018 The Monkees recorded another Partridge song, 'Unwrap You At Christmas', which was included on the band’s final album Christmas Party.
(If it sounds familiar you must have been watching The Great British Sewing Bee: Celebrity Christmas Special on Wednesday because the programme featured a short snippet.)
The demo was sung by Partridge's daughter Holly who, 30 years ago, was the inspiration for 'Holly Up On Poppy', a track on the XTC album Nonsuch.
Poppy, in case you're wondering, was a rocking horse. You're welcome.
