Out-running the virus

Last month, en route to the Isle of Arran off the south west coast of Scotland, we spent two days in Glasgow.

On our return we stayed another night in the city.

After a surge in coronavirus cases in Greater Glasgow the Scottish Government subsequently banned household visits in three areas, including East Renfrewshire where my mother-in-law lives.

On our way home we spent two nights in Hexham, Northumberland, before driving home via Newcastle, Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.

Today the BBC reports that 'New restrictions to halt a rise in coronavirus cases have come into force in north-east England, affecting almost two million people. The temporary measures, which started at midnight, are to tackle "concerning rates of infection" in the region.'

Two weeks ago, en route to visiting my mother in Chester, I passed through Lancashire where new Covid restrictions are also about to be announced.

Apologies to local residents if I appear to be a curse, but this week (Monday) I visited Bournemouth and nearby Boscombe (below).

The area has (so far) escaped the threat of any new restrictions but in the current feverish climate nothing would surprise me.

Meanwhile, and for the foreseeable future, I pledge to stay at home.
