Media matters

Further to last night's post, the Manchester Evening News has updated its report to include a substantial quote from Forest.

They only did it though after I made a bit of a nuisance of myself and given the story has long since fallen down the pecking order I imagine very few people will see it.

Meanwhile, a similar attempt to get the BBC to balance their report (Manchester street seating to be made smoke-free) has failed to get any response, despite several calls and emails.

The point is, if you read the comments in response to the MEN tweet below you'll see that we are far from alone in criticising the council's decision.

Unfortunately media reports on smoking rarely reflect the views of ordinary people – only politicians and public health 'experts' – hence the lack of proper debate or scrutiny.

Smoking will be banned in new outdoor seating areas at Manchester pubs, bars and restaurants https://t.co/0xYd5CWd0T
