Nine staff at anti-smoking charity paid more than the PM!

A Sun investigation has revealed that:

Dozens of charity bosses are pocketing huge salaries funded by the public's donations.

The paper found that:

Cancer Research UK alone paid nine executives more than David Cameron's £142,500.

Its chief executive Harpal Kumar, 50, got between £230,000 and £240,000 last year.

CRUK's Michael Pragnell defended the salaries:

"Some of our highest paid people are world leading scientists who have helped make huge advances in cancer research.

"We benchmark salaries against market rates in the charitable and academic sectors [my emphasis] to arrive at appropriate salary ranges which retain and attract the best people …"

Nice work if you can get it.

How many of us on here have been saying this for ages? I wonder if the Sun also picked up on the fact that many of these so-called “charities” are at least part (sometimes the majority “part”) funded by the taxpayer in the form of generous grants awarded by our supposedly deficit-strapped Government. Or that some receive very generous funding from large corporations within “interested” fields, which seems to magically transform them into campaigners for policies which will – err, purely coincidentally, of course – prove advantageous to their industry funders. Something which our enemies are only too keen to point out when arguing with your good self as Forest's spokesman, Simon, but which they are much less keen to admit to when it comes to looking at their own "vested interests."

There used to be an excellent site on the web entitled Fake Charities (run by DP, maybe - can't remember), but it folded, I think due to the huge amount of work that was involved, because so many charities kept turning up who are either wholly or largely dependent upon the taxpayer for their existence. That's an even bigger scam, that the Sun could reveal if they stick with this story. But will they?

If my £250,000 salary depended on continuing to find news ways to harrass smokers I'd be doing it too!

Using the cover of political correctness cannot disguise the fact that they are reminiscent of Germany in the '30s .
