Tonight's debate in Durham is preceded by a black tie dinner.
I rarely go to formal events so I tend to hire a dinner suit as and when required.
(The truth is, my ever expanding waistline is more suited – no pun intended – to something that may not fit in twelve months.)
Yesterday therefore I visited Moss Bros in Cambridge. They had a jacket the right size but no trousers.
Not for hire, at least.
There were plenty of dinner suits for sale, though.
So I decided to take the plunge and buy one for the first time in 20 years.
A quick investigation revealed they had the correct trousers but no jacket my size.
Aarrgghh!
I didn't have time to find another shop so I bought the trousers and hired the jacket.
Does that make any sense to you?
