Plain packaging: the glitz and the glamour

The Government's consultation document on plain packaging will be published at 9.30 this morning.

I was on Daybreak at 6.45 (with Deborah Arnott of ASH) but the producers asked me to arrive at ITV's London Studios on the South Bank at six o'clock which meant getting up at 3.30.

I am now sitting in my car in a car park close to Festival Hall waiting to do an interview for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. On the railway bridge above me early morning commuters are arriving for work on South Eastern Trains.

Believe me, the job doesn't get much more glamorous (or should I say "glitzy"?) than this.

PS. Prior to the Daybreak interview I briefly shared a make-up room with Lorraine Kelly. Sadly, a quick "Good morning" was the extent of our conversation because we weren't facing one another and she was too busy talking to her stylist.

Like me Lorraine supports Dundee United and when I heard her talking about Saturday's Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Hearts I desperately wanted to swing around in my chair and chip in.

Instead I bit my lip and a little bit of me died. Another time perhaps.
